SAP yang berpusat di Jerman adalah perusahaan pembuat enterprise software
terbesar di dunia.

*SAP ABAP* adalah bahasa pemrograman pertama yang memasukkan konsep Logical
database (LDBs), yang memberikan abstraksi tingkat tinggi dari database

"HaHa, kamu tahu kenapa dulu saya menerimamu jadi mahasiswa PhD? Itu karena
kamu tahu apa yang kamu mau dan akan lakukan, kamu secara khusus menyebut
proyek saya yang itu dan mengusulkan pendekatan baru. Kamu tahu, seorang
professor jika ada lamaran dari calon mahasiswa yang bermotivasi tinggi,
dia akan terima dan carikan dana meski saat itu dia sedang tidak punya".
Itulah kira-kira percakapan saya dengan pembimbing PhD saya, 10 tahun
kemudian dari sejak pertama kali saya menginjakkan kaki di kota Québec,
Januari 2004, ketika suhu berkebalikan tanda dengan suhu kota Bandung saat
itu. Sekarang, 5 tahun sejak sidang terbuka thesis PhD, saya kembali ke
universitas ini untuk sebuah posisi yang memungkinkan saya melakukan hal
yang sama dengan pembimbing PhD saya dulu, "memberikan kesempatan kepada
orang-orang muda bermotivasi tinggi untuk mengejar cita-cita mereka melalui
program pendidikan tinggi".

Saya, Hendra Hermawan, asli Cibaduyut, profesor baru di jurusan teknik
tambang, metalurgi dan material, Université Laval, Québec, Canada (LINK),
menantang pemuda Nusantara untuk datang, berjuang dan menang dalam
petualangan program doktorat di sini. Kesempatan terbuka untuk mereka:

Yang sudah mengerti atau mau belajar untuk mengerti

"electrochemical measurement techniques": corrosion, polarization,
electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, electrochemical noise. Atau,

Yang sudah berpengalaman dalam "cell biology": cell culture, cytotoxicity
test, electrophoresis technique, fluorescence microscopy, dan siap belajar
tentang confocal laser scanning microscope, cell-material interactions.

Untuk berjuang dan menang, mereka akan didukung:

1. Pembimbing utama yang bersahabat
2, Beasiswa yang cukup untuk bayar kuliah dan hidup sesuai standar
mahasiswa lokal.
3. Sistim pengkaderan yang melibatkan masa pelatihan di institusi lain di
Eropa atau Amerika.
4. Untuk menjadi Permanet Resident (PR) Canada

Di Université Laval, bahasa resmi pengajaran adalah Perancis, tetapi thesis
boleh ditulis dalam bahasa Inggris, komunikasi dengan pembimbing boleh
dengan bahasa Indonesia atau Sunda. Setelah resmi menjadi mahasiswa PhD,
tahun pertama diisi dengan mengikuti 9 sks kuliah wajib, seminar dan tulis
proposal. Akhir tahun pertama harus melewati predoctoral exam dan
selanjutnya penelitian, publikasi, menulis thesis, sidang terbuka, dan
wisuda. Kepandaian berbahasa Perancis akan sangat membantu kehidupan di
dalam dan di luar kampus, namun jika belum bisa boleh belajar disini,
langsung, dan menjadi keunggulan tambahan nantinya. Proses melamar ke
program pascasarjana di Université Laval sangat sederhana. Lengkapnya boleh

1. Résumé, letter of interest, and research project proposal.
2. Copies of university diplomas and transcripts (BS, MS).
3. Three reference letters.
